Toivo "Tor" Tammerk passed away August 4, 2024, in Cornelius, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his college sweetheart and beloved wife of 56 years, Constance Fleck Tammerk. He is survived by his sister Hedy-Ann Tammerk (Arvo) and niece and nephews Silvi, Erik and Kristian from Toronto, Canada and brother-in-law Greg Fleck (Judy) and nieces and nephew Melissa, Eric and Sarah in South Carolina.

Toivo was born October 28, 1945 in Sweden of Estonian parents escaping the Soviet Invasion of 1944. He grew up in New York City and Westchester County before graduating from Rutgers University in 1968 where he was the captain of the rugby team.

In a wide-ranging career, he served as Executive Director and Chairman of the Naples (FL) Airport Authority, President and CEO of The Conservancy (FL), and Vice Chairman of the Florida Advisory Council for Environmental Education. His later years in higher education included vice presidency at Hartwick College (NY) and Vice Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He was a loving brother, uncle and loyal friend. He will always be missed for his great storytelling, eclectic wisdom and boundless love of Nature. A private pilot, he enjoyed tennis, sailing, scuba diving and the great Outdoors. He will be remembered for his quick mind, sense of humor and irrepressible nature.
